    The aim of the Course is restoring, optimizing, or ex-novo developing the material and aesthetic functionality of any anthropic system or artefact. It provides Students with theoretic foundations and methodological-operative tools to evaluate and solve conditions of:disequilibrium and deterioration, through restoration and valorization projects;latent functionality, by implementing and developing novel functions.Fields of interest include urban areas, public and private buildings and interiors.The Course addresses issues related to:identification and comprehension of the specific “Genius Loci”;the recovering of soil functionality and the Technosols building through Pedotechnologies;the management of “Green” at various interventions scales.Pedotechnologies matter deals with:the recovery and maintaining of soil functionality in “natural” and anthropized environments;the design and assembling of Technosols and Pseudosols.The concerns about the management of the vegetation in a Design / Architecture project are multifarious, and deserve an in-deep consideration. The “Green” cannot, and should not be reductively judged as a trivial ornament, furniture or make up of an artefact; quite the reverse, the “Green” is an integral part, functional and functioning, of the work. It is as superficial as unreasonable to discount that the “Green” is a living organism, continuously changing its shape, mass, volume, color. Contrastingly, our daily experience puts before our eyes a number of empirical and tawdry approaches to “Green” by some Architects and Designers: this clearly highlights how a shortage of knowledge, competence and sense makes fleeting all works implemented with a self-referential conceit. The grossest mistake is disregarding the plant requirements, as, chiefly, rooting in a suitable soil / substrate, adequate water and nutrients supply, a favorable environment, a protection against pest and diseases

    Prerequisiti

    According to its Objectives, the Course is essentially structured as an integrated multidiscipline. Students need to be polyvalent Architects, skilled in survey, representation and interpretation of land, landscape, buildings and artifact. Basic information dealing with chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy and legislation are also recommended. Such a familiarity will be made available also by ad hoc workshops (confer “Teaching Methods”). An adequate knowledge of technical-scientific English language is recommended.

    Metodologie didattiche

    Front-lecturing, lab practice, field survey, design and modeling of restoration actions. If the case, supplementing, specialized Seminars will be offered to uniform and improve the Students’ knowledge background. The Teacher will steadily supervise and appraise the Student work from the preliminary concept to the final restoration modeling. The Student work will be presented as oral dissertation supplied with free-hand sketches and preliminaries, and the conclusive restoration project (print and CD/DVD), with Italian-English glossary of technical terms.The Teacher thinks it’s appropriate to favor and stimulate the Students’ enterprise and the honest professional competition, as well as the co-operation sense, the positive criticisms and the integration of distinct standpoints and expertise. Brilliant, enterprising Students will be allowed to propose specified study-cases, provided such cases have a socioeconomic and doctrinal value, are transferable, and of true, general interest to acquire expertise and professionalism.Therefore, Students are warmly encouraged to responsibly create working teams (the number of participants must be proportionated to the project complexity). However, the contribution of any single participant will be extrapolated to be honestly and rightly evaluated.
