    Contenuti

Since the melting of the students’ group is uncertainty due to the different backgrounds there will be a definition of the design exercises in coherence with the maturity and preparation of the students.
The course will be based on frontal lectures dedicated to some key-words of architecture and architectural thinking as well on the experience of a series of Modern and Contemporary architects:
Void and Limit/ Drawing/ Image/ Public Space and Community/ Home/ Artificial and Natural/ History, Memory and Continuity/ Monument/ Eros, Body and Architecture/ Primary and Elementary/ Light and Colour/ Communication and Project/ Vision
    BBPR/ Piranesi/ Ricardo Bofill/ Enric Miralles/ Le Corbusier/ Paul Rudolph/ Louis Kahn/Aldo van Eyck/ Smithsons/ James Stirling/ John Soane/ Hassan Fathy/ Giancarlo De Carlo/ Carlos Villanueva/ Japanese Metabolist/ Sigurd Lewerentz
The core of the Design researches will be based on the notion of Emptiness as element able to generate new spaces of social and cultural relationships. In close relation to this argument we will work on Densification and Re-Use as strategy to reduce soil consumption and to define challenging form of urban regeneration.
Reality and its problems will be the ground we will use to generate strategies and new tools of intervention.

    Testi di riferimento

A Bibliography will be provided the first day of lecture and further elements will be communicated along the different conversations. Every students will be asked to design its own Bibliography which will represent the individual path of the Design Process.

Reality and its problems will be the ground we will use to generate strategies and new tools of intervention.
Three Design Actions has been chosen:
    A. 1 day: Individual work done in the classroom. We ask you to use an elementary form (sphere, pyramid, cube) and to transform it into a living space built inside our classroom. Drawing, techniques and representations free hand.

    B. 1 month: The home that we are, the house as self-portrait. Given a Maison Do-Mi-No concrete skeleton abandoned in the countryside of Aversa, we ask you to transform it into a living home able to represent yourself. Project to be represented with plans/sections scale 1:50, axonometric drawing, model scale 1:100 and a dossier (A4) where you will describe the design process, methodology and references. Individual work.

    C. 2 months: Addiction and urban densification. Given one of the sides of San Lorenzo courtyard, the main lateral wall of the inner garden or the façade looking at the internal courtyard of the library (free choice) we ask you to design a new body of architecture connected to the existence. Maximum 5 m. width, volume and functions to be discussed with the professor. Project to be represented with plans/sections scale 1:50, axonometric drawing, model scale 1:100 and a dossier (A4) where you will describe the design process, methodology and references. Couple of students.
