What is a traineeship course?
The traineeship course is a mandatory component of the study plans for individual degree programs within the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design. Students must complete it to achieve the required educational objectives, obtain eligibility, and earn the corresponding CFU credits. The number of CFU credits to be earned and the timing of the traineeship vary depending on the specific degree program.
Students can determine the academic year in which they are allowed to undertake the traineeship course by consulting their study plan for the year of enrollment.
The traineeship course can be carried out in Italy or abroad, but only at an institution that has an active agreement with the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design.
If the institution where the student intends to carry out the traineeship course is not among those already under agreement with the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design, or if the traineeship agreement has expired, a new agreement must be established with the institution in question.
Institutions with an active traineeship course with the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design may host a limited number of interns at the same time, in accordance with the limits specified below (Regulation - Decree No. 142 of March 25, 1998):
- Institutions with no more than 5 permanent employees: 1 intern
- Institutions with 6 to 19 permanent employees: no more than 2 interns
- Institutions with more than 20 permanent employees: interns may not exceed 10% of the total number of permanent employees
The completion of the traineeship course requires the designation of a company tutor (an employee of the institution, who must be designated by the institution itself) and a university tutor (a faculty member affiliated with the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design). These tutors support the intern throughout the process, monitor their activities, and assess the achievement of the educational objectives that have been set.
The traineeship course process consists of four steps, which are detailed in the section titled
STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR THE COMPLETION OF THE TRAINEESHIP COURSE
Students determine the period during which they must complete the curricular traineeship by consulting their study plan for the year of enrollment.
Traineeship course Design and Communication
Starting from the academic year 2024-2025, second-year students are required to participate in an intra-moenia traineeship to earn 2 CFU credits, equivalent to 50 hours. The meetings will take place at Officina Vanvitelli on the following dates: on 12 March 2025, 02 April 2025, 16 April 2025 and 14 May 2025 from 09:30 to 16:30.
The traineeship will be conducted through a series of on-site meetings in collaboration with companies involved in the STEERING COMMITTEE - Design, Communication, and Fashion. During the traineeship, students must complete a diary, which must be submitted to the Traineeship Office at the following email address: Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo., with a copy sent to the university tutor. The university tutor will then confirm the completion of the traineeship to the Traineeship Office via email.
The remaining 6 CFU credits will be earned in the third year through the completion of the traineeship course, following the procedures outlined in the section below.
STEP 1:
The trainee selects a potential institution (studio/organization/company) from the list of institutions with an active agreement with the Department where they can carry out the curricular traineeship.
List of affiliated institutions (updated as of November 2025)
How to contact the company
Afterward, the trainee sends an email using their institutional email address to the chosen institution. The email must be prepared according to a specific EMAIL TEMPLATE. In the email, the trainee requests availability for a meeting at the institution's location, should the institution require it. The meeting will serve to verify the institution's willingness to host interns during the requested period, identify a company tutor who will support the trainee during the activities, and agree on the possible tasks to be carried out during the traineeship.
If necessary, the trainee can contact the member of the departmental commission for "orientation - traineeship", who is indicated as the reference for their specific degree program, and/or the Traineeship Office via email using their institutional email address.
Non-affiliated institutions
Companies/institutions/studios not yet affiliated that wish to apply for an agreement for traineeship must send to the traineeship office (Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo.) by certified PEC mail, 4 files in pdf format (which can be downloaded at points 1. and 2. reported below):
- Company Information Sheet (duly completed, signed and stamped)
- Framework Convention (duly completed, signed and stamped)
- Curriculum vitae of the company contact person
- Portfolio and/or website indication.
STEP 2:
Identification of University Tutor
How to Identify University Tutors
The trainee identifies a lecturer from the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design whose teaching and scientific activities align with those of the chosen host institution. They then send an email from their institutional email address to the selected lecturer, confirming their availability to act as a university tutor for the specified period and defining the objectives of the curricular traineeship. The university tutor does not necessarily have to be a member of the ‘Guidance and Work Placement’ committee. During the traineeship, the university tutor may request progress checks or meetings with the trainee.
STEP 3:
Before starting a traineeship, the 'TRAINEESHIP PROJECT' must be submitted to the traineeship office at Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo. at least three (3) days before the start date. The student may begin the traineeship activity only after receiving approval.
FAILURE TO SUBMIT THE TRAINEESHIP PROJECT WILL RESULT IN THE INTERNSHIP NOT BEING RECOGNIZED.
If the placement is not completed by the date approved in the project, the student is required to submit the Extension Form 15 days before the deadline.
How to Complete the Traineeship Project
The form must be fully completed.
Regarding access times, you must specify the days and hours, from Monday to Friday, in accordance with the academic calendar. Please note that the academic calendar is prepared at the beginning of the academic year; therefore, any closure days decided later cannot be used for the traineeship.
The number of traineeship credits to be earned can be found in your study plan, with each traineeship credit corresponding to 25 hours.
The promoter's stamp and signature should be affixed only if requested by the host organization. In that case, the form must be submitted to the traineeship office, which will provide the necessary stamp and signature.
The completed and signed form must be submitted as a single PDF file.
The prepared PDF should then be sent to Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo., with a copy to both the university tutor and the professional tutor, who will review it via email.
STEP 4:
At the end of the placement, the Traineeship Diary must be submitted, fully completed in all its sections, except for Part E.
The online satisfaction questionnaires must be completed by accessing the following links:
Satisfaction Questionnaire by Trainee: https://forms.office.com/e/LNab8EWqrc
Satisfaction Questionnaire by the Host Tutor: https://forms.office.com/e/fiMByL8z6e
Please note that if the placement exceeds five (5) consecutive hours, a break must be taken and reported in the Traineeship Diary. In any case, the placement activity should not exceed eight (8) hours per day.
The completed and signed form must be submitted as a single PDF file. The completed PDF should be sent to Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo., including in CC the university tutor, who will confirm the completion of the internship to the traineeship office via email.
