    Obiettivi formativi

    Contents

The course will focus on the fundamentals of the information design project, starting from its articulated definition, in order to provide students with an appropriate design approach for the creation of an infographic and for its communication to a non-specialist audience.
Through theoretical notions, practical exercises and case studies, on the structuring of the design process, the principles and phases of the project will be investigated in images related to the different interpretative possibilities of the data. Some lessons will be dedicated to the use of color in visual communication and its meanings, as a design tool.

    Textbook and course materials

The bibliography on the design of infographics, as well as references to case studies and the bibliography on the theme of color, will be provided in the classroom, in subsequent stages and corresponding to the progress of projects.

    Course objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the tools for the design of an infographic and for the creation of a project of explanatory editorial graphics and support to the contents of the infographic. Starting from the acquisition of data and contents, the phases of the project will be articulated in the choice of the visual language appropriate to the interlocutor, the consistency and meanings of the data, as well as their repetition according to a narrative structure.

In particular, the student will have to acquire:
    - Knowledge of information design applications
    - Knowledge of the use and meanings of colours
    - Knowledge of the forms and languages of communication design
    - Technical skills for the realization of synthetic and expressive signs
    - Technical skills for the realization of an effective infographic
    - Technical skills for drafting an editorial project
    - Technical skills and knowledge of the properties of narrative processes.

    Prerequisites

Freehand drawing, use of vector drawing, image processing programs and of pages layout.

    Teaching methods

The teaching is structured in two closely related parts: a theoretical part and an application part.
The theoretical part is carried out through a cycle of frontal lessons, aimed at providing the notions relating to information design.
The application part, carried out in parallel with the theoretical lessons, consists of individual and group exercises to be carried out in the classroom. The exercises will be assigned in the classroom, during the lessons, and performed individually, or in groups by students, under the supervision of the teacher.

    Evaluation methods

The verification of in-progress learning is conducted through classroom reviews, and intermediate deliveries of the project. The examination consists of an interview on the topics covered during the theoretical lessons and on the exercises carried out in the classroom, it will also be the subject of an examination a project of the year carried out in a group.
Students must show a suitable level of knowledge of the theoretical knowledge related to the teaching and present the works related to the exercises carried out in the classroom, as well as those corresponding to the contents of the project of the year, relating to a fashion collection and its basic communication.
The evaluation will take into account the student's ability to use a technical language appropriate to the discipline, the theoretical knowledge acquired, the technical quality of the artifacts of the exercises and that of the project artifacts, against which the learning of the design process and the articulation of its phases will be evaluated.
The examination of profit, even if the theme of the year's project is carried out in groups, is individual.
