Contents | The Course of History of Mediaeval and Modern Architecture aims to make the knowledge and basic instruments of analysis of the complex phenomenology of history of architecture and urban context developments from Early Christian to Modern era (300CE-1900CE) accessible to students. The prerequisite is the study of formal components and technical development from Early Christian and Mediaeval era to XVIIIth Century. Building configurations and their historical and architectural contexts will be analyzed looking at the different formal solutions, space relationships, regarding the historical, cultural, economic, scientific and social conditions in each era. |
Textbook and course materials | Bibliographical supports will be given by the teacher in lesson time. Some selected texts will be available to students c/o Department Library. Basic texts is the volume: D. Watkin, Storia dell’architettura occidentale, Bologna, Zanichelli, 2012 (also available in English version). |
Course objectives | The proposal of the University course of History of Mediaeval and Modern Architecture is to give to students the knowledge and understanding ability on history of town and architecture from Early Christian to Modern era (300CE-1700CE), and to be able to make critical and historical judgements, increasing communication and learning skills. |
Prerequisites | Historical basic knowledge, knowledge of history of architecture (University first year level). |
Teaching methods | Front lessons with explained slideshows, including seminar insights and critical and documentary readings. |
Evaluation methods | Procedure: the examination is based on an oral interview on themes developed in the course, supported by graphics, power point presentations and images shown by students. |
Other information | The slides showed during the course (divided into teaching units, grouped according to thematic units) are available c/o Department Library for free. Only didadctical and internal use is allowed. |
