Contents | The Course of History of the City aims to make the knowledge and basic instruments of analysis of the complex phenomenology of history of the city, town planning, urban context developments from the Antique to Modern era (500BC-1900CE) accessible to students. The prerequisite is the study of formal components and urban development from Ancient and Mediaeval era to XXth Century. Urban configurations and their historical and architectural contexts will be analyzed looking at the different formal solutions, space relationships, regarding the historical, cultural, economic, scientific and social conditions in each era. |
Textbook and course materials | Bibliographical supports will be given by the teacher in lesson time. Some selected texts will be available to students c/o Department Library. Basic texts are the volumes of book series “Storia della città” (History of the City) printed by Laterza, Bari. |
Course objectives | The proposal of the University course of History of the City is to give to students the knowledge and understanding ability on history of town and architecture from the Antique to Modern era (500BC-1900CE), and to be able to make critical and historical judgements, increasing communication and learning skills. |
Prerequisites | Historical basic knowledge, knowledge of history of architecture (University second year level). |
Teaching methods | Front lessons with explained slideshows, including seminar insights and critical and documentary readings. Lessons on-line if required by Unicampania. |
Evaluation methods | Procedure: the examination is based on an oral interview on themes developed in the course, supported by graphics, power point presentations and images shown by students. |
Other information | The slides showed during the course (divided into teaching units, grouped according to thematic units) are available c/o Department Library for free. Only didactical uses are allowed. |
