    Contenuti

    Contents

The contents of the course can be summarized in four main areas of study: tension and deformation (as well as the relationships between the two entities, work, potential, etc.); beam theory (the DSV, the section, the verification of resistance, etc.); systems of resolution of hyperstatic structures; materials (the difference between the linear elastic model and other known models).

    Textbook and course materials

The library panorama offers numerous texts for the study of Construction Science, all generally of good quality and all, with regard to the complete topics. The diligent student can deepen the study by adding more texts to go beyond the single convention to the spirit of the subject.
In any case, it is essential to follow the lessons and take notes directly from the teacher's explanations, aimed at the objectives of the course. As a summary of the topics to be taken into account as essential basic requirements for understanding the course, we recommend reading the Principles of Mechanical Behaviour in Structural Elements, Claudia Cennamo and Marco di Fiore, Nicorelli Editore, 2019.

    Course objectives

The Structural Mechanics Course, as part of the Architect's training, is a fundamental step during which the student must be accompanied in the knowledge of all methodologies for structural identification and their solution that can be used in processes of a technical nature to which he will be called in the course of professional activity; must be informed of the structural problems that exist in the field of construction in order to better incorporate the information acquired during the architectural design; must acquire expertise in methods for verifying the efficiency of structures both in terms of strength and in terms of functionality and therefore deformability of the manufact.

    Prerequisites

The student who wants to approach profitably the course of Structural Mechanics must have the notions that are proper to the preparatory course of Statica. Knowledge of the measurement units of the international system and expertise in dimensional analysis is required.

    Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises in the classroom looking for interaction with the students.
Laboratory of structures to materialize the theoretical learning.
Monodisciplinary seminars also held by external teachers on general topics related to the contents of the course.
Meetings with students during reception hours for individual corrections.

    Evaluation methods

The course programme is divided into four macro-topics, each of which is developed over a period of one month, for the four months of the four-month period. At the end of each group of lessons, a test ratifies the student's degree of learning. The arithmetic mean between the four tests and the final check determines the exam grade.
