    L’insegnamento illustra i principali episodi della storia dell’architettura in Occidente dalla metà dell’Ottocento all’attualità, attraverso l’approfondimento del tema dello spazio domestico, ma anche con riferimenti agli spazi commerciali, di lavoro, pubblici, espositivi, e agli aspetti della comunicazione e della diffusione del gusto.
    L’insegnamento si articola cronologicamente in lezioni tematiche su opere e contesti di particolare significato storico-artistico, tenendo conto del rapporto tra progettisti, movimenti, committenti, nei diversi momenti storici considerati. L’indagine promuoverà una lettura storico-critica di tali episodi, volta a metterne in luce il complesso sistema d’istanze materiali, formali, artistiche, politiche, economiche.

    Obiettivi formativi

    - Trasferire conoscenze e capacità di comprensione dei principali episodi della storia dell’architettura in Occidente dalla metà dell’Ottocento all’attualità, in rapporto con il loro contesto, sia negli aspetti pratico-costruttivi che in quelli di estetico-progettuali. Attraverso lezioni tematiche su casi di studio e contesti di particolare significato storico-artistico, si svilupperanno conoscenza e capacità di comprensione delle relazioni tra architettura, cambiamenti sociali, di gusto e produttivi, e quindi i diversi stili di vita succedutisi nel tempo, attraverso l’approfondimento del tema dello spazio domestico, ma anche con riferimenti agli spazi commerciali, di lavoro, pubblici, espositivi, e agli aspetti della comunicazione e della diffusione del gusto. L’indagine promuoverà una lettura storico-critica di tali episodi, volta a metterne in luce il complesso sistema d’istanze materiali, formali, artistiche, politiche, economiche.
    - Utilizzare le conoscenze e le capacità di comprensione acquisite per produrre relazioni scritte ed elaborati grafici illustrativi di un tema di approfondimento concordato con gli studenti e i docenti del Corso di laurea magistrale teso a favorire le relazioni interdisciplinari.

    Prerequisiti

    Conoscenza dei fondamenti di storia dell’architettura e del design occidentali in età contemporanea (XIX-XXI secolo). Sono utili conoscenze di storia dell'arte contemporanea.

    Metodologie didattiche

    L’insegnamento si articola in 48 ore di didattica frontale suddivise in: lezioni frontali con supporto d’immagini; eventuali sopralluoghi; eventuali seminari con esperti; attività seminariali in aula orientate a stimolare conoscenze e capacità di comprensione, capacità di trarre conclusioni, abilità comunicative (lettura e discussione testi).
    La frequenza delle lezioni è obbligatoria. Per poter accedere all’esame di profitto finale sarà necessario raggiungere una percentuale minima di presenza del 70%.

    Metodi di valutazione

    L’insegnamento prevede un calendario didattico caratterizzato da momenti di verifica in itinere, quali: commento orale d’immagini, interventi orali durante le lezioni, risposte alle domande poste dal docente, attività seminariale in aula, presentazione dello stato di avanzamento degli approfondimenti assegnati singolarmente agli studenti.
    Tali verifiche concorrono alla valutazione finale e i principali parametri di valutazione sono: puntualità e partecipazione attiva durante le lezioni, chiarezza ed efficacia delle esposizioni e della presentazione del tema di approfondimento.
    All’esame frontale individuale finale gli studenti dovranno presentare e discutere gli elaborati prodotti durante l’insegnamento, nonché dimostrare la conoscenza dei temi trattati durante le lezioni, e la capacità di comprensione e di trarre conclusioni su tali argomenti, inquadrandoli nel loro ambito storico, attraverso un colloquio articolato in circa tre domande.

    The course illustrates the main episodes of the history of Western architecture from the mid-nineteenth century to present, through an in-depth study of the theme of the domestic space, but also with references to commercial, work, public, exhibition spaces, and aspects of communication and the diffusion of taste.
    The course is organised chronologically with thematic lessons on works and contexts of particular historical-artistic significance, taking into account the relationship between designers, movements, patrons, in the different historical moments considered. The investigation will promote a historical-critical reading of these episodes, aimed at highlighting the complex system of material, formal, artistic, political, economic aspects.

    The reference texts will be integrated with further didactic material (slides, articles, images, videos) which will be uploaded on the course web page.

    Course objectives

    - To transfer knowledge and understanding skills of the main episodes of the history of Western architecture from the mid-nineteenth century to present, in relation to their context, both in the practical-construction and aesthetic-design aspects. Through thematic lessons on case studies and contexts of particular historical-artistic significance, knowledge and understanding of the relationships between architecture, social, taste and production changes, and therefore the different lifestyles that have occurred over time, will be developed, deepening of the theme of the domestic space, but also with references to commercial, work, public, exhibition spaces, and to the aspects of communication and the diffusion of taste. The investigation will promote a historical-critical reading of these episodes, aimed at highlighting the complex system of material, formal, artistic, political, economic aspects.
    - To use the knowledge and comprehension skills acquired to produce written reports and illustrative graphical elaborations of an in-depth topic, chosen with the students and the teachers of the Master Course, aiming at promoting interdisciplinary connections.

    Prerequisites

    Basic knowledge of the history of contemporary western architecture and design (19th-21st century).
    Knowledge of contemporary art history is useful.

    Teaching methods

    The course is divided into 48 hours of frontal teaching divided into: frontal lessons with image support; possible on-site visits; possible guest lectures; seminar activities aimed at stimulating knowledge and comprehension skills, ability to draw conclusions, communication skills (reading and discussion of texts).
    Class attendance is mandatory. In order to access the final exam it will be necessary to reach a minimum attendance percentage of 70%.

    Evaluation methods

    The course includes moments of ongoing verification, such as: oral commentary of images, oral interventions during the lessons, answers to the questions asked by the teacher, seminar activities in the classroom, presentation of the progress of the insights assigned individually to the students.
    These verifications contribute to the final evaluation and the main evaluation parameters are: punctuality and active participation during the lessons, clarity and effectiveness of the exposures and of the presentation of the in-depth topics.
    At the final individual frontal exam, students will have to present and discuss the materials produced during the teaching, as well as demonstrate their knowledge of the topics covered during the lessons, and their ability to understand and draw conclusions on these topics, framing them in their historical context, through an interview divided into about three questions.
