Course objectives | The course of Applied Thermodynamics is aimed at providing students with the basic knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer together with their technical applications in the real world. At the end of the course the students should be able to understand the topics of the course and apply the knowledge in order to analyze the energy performance of buildings as well as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. In particular, students have to be able to: |
Prerequisites | Elements of Physics and Mathematics. |
Teaching methods | The course consists of 48 hours of frontal lessons, including 13 hours of written exercises. |
Evaluation methods | The final exam (for students who did not participate/pass the intervening tests) will consist of a written test and an oral test. The written test will consist of 5 exercises covering the entire teaching programme; it will last 1.5 hours; it will be assigned a score out of thirty. The written test will be passed only in the case of a score of at least 18/30 and will be preparatory to the oral test. The oral test in the classroom will take place with an interview divided into questions regarding the entire teaching programme; it will aim to evaluate the student's ability to make critical connections, synthesis, exposition and use of specialist vocabulary. The oral test will be assigned a score out of thirty. The overall score of the final exam will be the arithmetic mean of the scores of the written test and the oral test and must be at least equal to 18/30 to pass the exam. |
Other information | Slides focusing on the content of the lectures as well as tables/graphs for solving the exercises will be made available to students on the institutional course webpage. |
