Contenuti | L’insegnamento illustra i principali episodi della storia del design e dell’architettura in Occidente dall’antichità al primo dell’Ottocento, in relazione ai contesti sociali e culturali. |

Obiettivi formativi | - Acquisire conoscenze e capacità di comprensione dei principali episodi della storia del design e dell’architettura in Occidente dall’antichità al primo dell’Ottocento, in rapporto con il loro contesto, sia negli aspetti pratico-costruttivi che in quelli di estetico-progettuali. Attraverso lezioni tematiche su casi di studio e contesti di particolare significato storico-artistico, si svilupperanno conoscenza e capacità di comprensione delle relazioni tra design, architettura, cambiamenti sociali, di gusto e produttivi succedutisi nel tempo. L’indagine promuoverà una lettura storico-critica di tali episodi, volta a metterne in luce il complesso sistema d’istanze materiali, formali, artistiche, politiche, economiche. |
Prerequisiti | Nozioni di base di storia dell’arte e dell’architettura acquisite nel corso della formazione scolastica di secondo grado. |
Metodologie didattiche | L’insegnamento si articola in attività didattica diretta (lezioni ex-cathedra) anche con il supporto d’immagini e con il coinvolgimento degli studenti, al fine di stimolare conoscenze e capacità di comprensione e di sintesi critica, abilità comunicative. Sono previsti: la presentazione in aula da parte degli studenti dello stato di avanzamento del tema di approfondimento concordato; eventuali sopralluoghi; eventuali seminari con esperti. |
Metodi di valutazione | La verifica dell’apprendimento sarà effettuata con un esame orale individuale finale. Gli studenti dovranno presentare e discutere gli elaborati prodotti durante il corso relativi al tema di approfondimento concordato, nonché dimostrare la conoscenza e l’analisi critica degli argomenti trattati durante le lezioni, inquadrandoli nel loro ambito storico, attraverso un colloquio con il docente. Parametri di valutazione saranno: capacità di collegamenti critici, di sintesi, di organizzazione dell’esposizione, di uso del lessico specialistico. |

Contents | The teaching illustrates the main episodes of the history of Western design and architecture through the centuries, from antiquity to early 19th century, in their social and cultural contexts. |
Textbook and course materials | - Survey textbooks on the history of Western design and architecture chosen by the students. |
Course objectives | - To acquire knowledge and understanding of the main episodes in the history of design and architecture in the West from antiquity to the early 19th century, in relation to their context, both in their practical-constructive and aesthetic-design aspects. Through thematic lectures on case studies and contexts of particular historical-artistic significance, knowledge and understanding of the relationships between design, architecture, social, taste and production changes over time will be developed. The investigation will promote a historical-critical reading of these episodes, aimed at highlighting the complex system of material, formal, artistic, political and economic instances. |
Prerequisites | Basic knowledge of the history of art and architecture acquired in the course of secondary school education. |
Teaching methods | The teaching is divided into direct teaching activities (ex-cathedra lessons), also with the support of images and with the involvement of the students, in order to stimulate knowledge and the ability to understand and critically synthesise, and communication skills. The following are foreseen: classroom presentation by the students of the progress of the agreed in-depth study topic; possible field trips; possible seminars with experts. |
Evaluation methods | Learning will be verified by a final individual oral examination. The students will have to present and discuss the papers produced during the course related to the agreed in-depth study topic, as well as demonstrate their knowledge and critical analysis of the topics dealt with during the lectures, setting them in their historical context, through an interview with the lecturer. Assessment parameters will be: ability to make critical connections, synthesis, organisation of exposition, use of specialist vocabulary. |
Other information | Students will be able to carry out in-depth siteographic and bibliographic studies verified by the lecturer. |
