Contents | The course is meant to offer the student basic theoretical skills related to Modern and Post-Modern Western architecture culture which will offer to the student a set of critical tools able to define a better comprehension of the methodology applied to the Design Process. |
Textbook and course materials | Luca Molinari, Le case che siamo, Nottetempo ed., Milano, 2016 |
Course objectives | The student will acquire analytical skills related to basic architectural tools and will deepen the concept of typology in relationship with distribution and composition of the architectural fabric. The student will deepen the architectural process considering it in relation to every single element. The project will be considered through all the compositional, constructive and environmental elements. The student will acquire theoretical elements to enrich the design process and methodology. |
Prerequisites | It’s necessary a good written and spoken comprehension of the English language, and the basic capacity of using the basic design programs applied to simple bodies of work. It’s requested a good capacity of hand drawing which is fundamental for the Design Process. |
Evaluation methods | There will be front lectures, seminar, workshop, dialogue with special guests and a study trip, accordingly with dpcm Covid19 and the communication of the university. The final graduation is based on a series of fundamental and inter-connected elements: mandatory presence to the course; an active participation inside the course and a real capacity to activate a dialogue; the final presentation of the results as they will be defined during the Course. The final works will be presented in a Final Public Show following the instructions which will be given. Each student will present a set of drawings, a model and a final report able to explain the methodology applied and the references. Each student will present in public his work showing the capacity of explaining the project, its vision and conceptual structure showing a full comprehension of the language applied to the project and its components. |
Course Syllabus | Main goal of the Laboratory of Design 1 is to empower the basic contents and tools, with particular attention to the theoretical and methodological tools of the Design Process. Without a clear comprehension of the theories and key-words which defines Western Architecture Culture it’s impossible to ground and define the design process. Before starting design, an architect must learn to think correctly and to use its skill with full awareness. |
