Metodologie didattiche | Sono previste lezioni frontali, seminari, esercitazioni e sopralluoghi.

Contents | The course aims to provide knowledge and skills necessary for the recognition and understanding of values sedimented into design objects as well as in the technical-cultural processes that superintended their production, in order to acquire theoretical criteria, methods and practices aimed at their conservation. Not unlike any other cultural heritage testimony, to protect these objects – as well as the know-how that produced them - preliminarily, it is necessary to acquire in a timely manner tangible and intangible meanings embodied into them, with respect to which the conservative project design must be set and declined. The recognition and understanding of their values and the design of the safeguard and enhancement intervention form, in fact, a logical succession of methods, whose principles, approaches and practical applications substantiate the contents of this teaching. |

Course objectives | The course aims to provide knowledge and skills functional to the development of criteria and methods aimed at the recognition and understanding of the values sedimented in the objects of use of consolidated constitution, especially when serial production, and to the ones that so denotaed but also devoted to be used within architectural and/or urban contexts. The task is to acquire knowledge of the theoretical foundations and methods of intervention responsible for their conservation. From the perspective of preservation, the didactic path aims to develop in students the knowledge, in particular, of the processes that, from theory to practice, have historically superintended the production of such objects, both when aimed at every days uses, and if made to be used within architectural or urban contexts. The aim is to learn to grasp the cultural meanings embodied in each object. The protection and enhancement of them must be addressed by efficient, compatible, reversible, practiseble and coherent conservation projects. In this scenario, the Course also promotes to understand and document the technical wisdom (mastery) that inspired and addressed historical constitution of these objects, suche as they witness today, to whose conservation and, where possible, enhancement the preservation design project is also explicitly targeted. |
Prerequisites | Basics of drawing, especially of technical type, as well as of objects geometric survey. Basic comprehension and first applications of digital representation and photography techniques are also requested. Fundamentals of the history of architecture and of design constitute, as well, important pre-requisites to these topics. |
Teaching methods | Lectures, seminars, exercises, and on-site inspections are planned. On these activities, it is required, depending to students' selections, to draw up some specific reports, to be set according to the methods and indications, from time to time, explicitly explained by the professor. These exercises, to be prepared during the Course devolpment, are essential and integral documentationsof each student oarticipation to the didactic activities, necessary for an overall evaluation of their singole work, as well as for passing the correspondent exam and formulating the specific grade. |
Evaluation methods | Students are going to elaborate individual reports on some of the activities - that they can select - carried out during the Course, as well as on some the topics assigned by the professor, for the better comprehension of the Course contents, following the formats, forms and methods so specified from time to time. The reviews of these reports and other specified didactic projects are integral and coherent parts of the Course didactic activities. During the exam, the degree of acquisition of the cited skills and knowledge so achieved by students, all concerning the didactic objectives previously indicated, will be evaluated, namely, the ability to recognise and understand the meanings sedimented in the studied artifacts, the reasons motivating their conservation and future transmission and the criteria and methods of the practices addressed to their protection and enhancement. These acquisitions - to verify which two questions will also be asked to each students during the exam about the theoretical contents of the main topic of the Course - are going to be evaluated within the complexity of the entire themes addressed by the Course. |
Other information | The reports, to produce in number and on topics or subjects, on purpose, established by the professor during the Course, only regarding the concepts, the lectures and activities, as well as the seminars and exercises hold during the Course, must be given to the professor during the development of each student's examnination. These materials are, in fact, integral and inseperable components of the didactic work and experience each student made on preservation design project thanks to the specific activities planned by the professor to, as much as possible, better answer to the specific primary training needs of the Degree proposal. The cited didactic materials must be delivered to the professor in digital formats once having positively finished the examination. |
Course Syllabus | Literacy on the main lemmas of restoration and conservation theory amd praxis. |
