Contents | Design (reading, interpretation, conception) and structural dimensioning of steel structural complexes, with specific references to multistorey buildings. The specific features of metal structures as well as the structural forms, structural typologies, main seismic resisting systems, types of connections and their influence on the structural response, buckling problems, technological aspects and constructional details, innovative systems for seismic protection will be analyzed. In addition design applications will be developed by the analysis of case studies addressed at defining the interaction between architectural and structural aspects. |
Textbook and course materials | Lecture notes. |
Course objectives | The main scope is to provide basic tools for interpreting the structural behavior and the interaction between the structure and architecture of steel multistorey buildings. The objective will be achieved by theoretical and practical lectures with the development of case studies related to existing buildings exposed to seismic loads. |
Prerequisites | Basic knowledge on Structural Mechanics and Structural Engineering |
Teaching methods | Frontal lessons and classroom exercises for developing the case study. Seminars. |
Evaluation methods | Oral examination with analysis of the considered topics and discussion of the case study. |
Other information | As support for the theoretical lessons, the slides will be distributed to the students. |
