Contents | The course aims to present one of the interpretative keys of the wide cultural phenomenon of Made in Italy, through the historical reading of the significant moments that have marked the evolution of objects during the twentieth century. |
Textbook and course materials | General background texts: |
Course objectives | The course aims to reconstruct the evolutionary phases of the history of design in Italy in the twentieth century by identifying the confluence of artistic culture, the world of industry and engineering, craftsmanship and the space of the project. Fundamental in this direction is the historical reconnaissance up to the topicality of the significant moments in which design culture is measured by the research conducted in the architectural field in relation to social changes and scientific experimentation. This will allow us to extrinsicize and identify the qualities of the industrial products that surround us, from the object of use, to pieces of furniture, to means of transport, recognizing their expressiveness and belonging to a specific cultural sphere. At the end of the training course students will be able to recognize, date, understand the design object and the theoretical-critical keys to interpret and enhance it in contemporary space and time. |
Prerequisites | Knowledge of the fundamentals of European and global design history. |
Teaching methods | Frontal lessons, projections of static visual contents and thematic meetings of comparison aimed at exercising the student's cognitive and expressive abilities. |
Evaluation methods | The verification of learning takes place through the preparation of a summary paper on the case of archive chosen by each student and the final examination, consisting of an oral test, which includes an interview on the theme of the year and a maximum of three open-ended questions on the topics of the course. In the evaluation in thirtieths, the results of the papers and the oral test have a weight of 30% and 70%, respectively, with the common goal of verifying the knowledge of general and particular issues, the acquisition of methodologies, the historical-critical skills and the ability to synthesis. |
Other information | During the course we will work in practice on the development of an educational project based on the identification, cataloguing, use, aimed at the reactivation of the Materio library in the Department Library. |
