Contents | The course aims to highlight the fundamental role of 'mediation' that graphic representation exercises, between the elaboration of spatial thought and its manifestation through the structures of design and architectural thought. Representation manifests itself as a logical structure that intervenes critically in the design process, constituting its main communicative vehicle. Therefore, the methods and techniques of drawing and modelling are analysed in relation to contemporary technologies. |
Textbook and course materials | M. DOCCI, R. MIGLIARI, Scienza della rappresentazione, Roma, NIS, 1992. |
Course objectives | The aim of the course is to provide the student architect with an articulated system of knowledge, both theoretical and practical, relating to the logical structures of geometric-spatial thought and to the graphic-operational tools that are indispensable for making the fundamental transition from the perceptive dynamics of space to its representative synthesis, through the structures of geometric thought. |
Prerequisites | Knowledge of the main manual drawing techniques. |
Teaching methods | Frontal lessons; classroom drawing workshop; collective and individual exercises and reviews |
Evaluation methods | The final assessment of the learning of the topics covered in the course consists of the discussion of the topics covered during the lectures and the evaluation of the final graphic works produced by the student. The student's critical ability and judgement in the presentation and handling of the graphic works of the year's theme, participation in the course and assiduity in individual exercises and revision will be assessed. |
Course Syllabus | 1. Introduction to geometry: relationship between geometric space and architectural space; brief history of the geometric representation of space; |
