The Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli develops, promotes and sustains a large variety of research activities in a number of scientific-disciplinary sectors by means of a multidisciplinary approach in cooperation with other Italian and foreign universities, research centres and companies.
There are Research Groups operating in the Department over a wide range of research topics, mainly focusing on advanced materials, resilience of structures, BIM technology and material innovation, sustainable and resilient cities, shape of architecture in settlements, landscape and interior space, theories and practices of architecture in the contemporary world, history and design of gems and jewels, contemporary cultural landscapes, acoustics, vibration and multisensory interactions, history and preservation for promoting the environmental and architectonical heritage, architectures and infrastructures for digitization, sustainable industrial design, energy efficiency and environment, carbon neutral buildings, knowledge, valorisation and digital communication of cultural heritage.
In addition, there are Laboratories, all with advanced equipment, where teaching activities, experimental studies, scientific research as well as activities on behalf of third parties are carried out by the Research Groups.
The Department has an Ethics Committee for Scientific Research (CERS), responsible for evaluating and expressing opinions on research proposals submitted by scholars and researchers, in compliance with Italian and European regulations on scientific research.

CERS group components

The Ethics Committee for Scientific Research (CERS) of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli,” established on 18 June 2021, examines requests for an opinion submitted by professors and researchers of the Department concerning research protocols involving human subjects, with particular reference to the following aspects:
a) adequacy of the level of protection of participants, regarding psychophysical well-being, decision-making autonomy, and confidentiality;
b) the completeness and clarity of the information and consent forms;
c) the reliability of the procedures adopted for data retention and protection, as well as for the prevention and management of any potential risks;
d) the solidity of the methodological framework adopted and the presence of the required expertise in the research group.

For this activity, the CERS may also consult specific disciplinary experts who are external to the research project under review.
For its decisions and activities and limited to what is set out in Article 2 of the Regolamento del Comitato Etico per la Ricerca Scientifica del Dipartimento di Architettura e Disegno Industriale, the Ethics Committee complies with international regulations, in compliance with the principles contained in the Declaration of Helsinki and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) No. 2016/679.
To submit a research protocol to the ESRB, you must submit the Form for submitting a request for an opinion to the CERS (Allegato A)
